It's hard to eat safely in developing countries if you don't know what you are supposed to look out for. Read this post to keep you safe from ruining your trip with Thai Tummy :(
The Thai cuisine is infamous for wonderful, flavoursome food and Thailand is obviously where many people go to get a taste of this cuisine. But how do you know what is safe to eat?
Do's and don't's for finding the safest places to eat in Thailand (targeted more for markets):
1) DO eat food that has been cooked
For example: dumplings and noodles are fried so possible bacteria would be eradicated
2) DO NOT go to a place preparing food on the floor, on the side of the road or down an alley
At Thailand's markets, there are many places to eat. However, stick to the main 'food court' and don't wander down a laneway. Watch carefully as cooks prepare people's food before you order from them. Do they wash their equipment? Do they cook the food properly? Before you order, observe how they handle the food while you make your decision.
3) DO be wary of fruit and vegetables
The water in most parts of Thailand is not properly sanitised so try to steer away from eating meals with food that should be washed. For example, when I ordered dumplings from a family selling them, I moved them off the lettuce that is there for decoration immediately. What would have been better would be to ask for it not with it!
There are SO many snacks that you will see that you would LOVE to have! Mango sticky rice is a popular and DELICIOUS option that you should try in Thailand. Be careful when choosing where to get it from though :)
Have fun and safe travels!
Remember: travel, relax, repeat xx
